Why blog?

Why blog?

This is one of My Questions. Why do I keep this blog?

Firstly I want to clear up what I mean by blogging here. For me this blog is my hobby! It’s for fun!

Blogging should be for fun

This is not a “side hustle.” I am not creating “content.” I don’t care about SEO. I don’t run ads. I’m not trying to make money!

Doing any of that immediately sucks out the fun for me.

I wrote a while ago about my journey from starting the blog to my epiphany over what I should be doing. (Ignore all the ‘beginner blogger’ advice that is alwaays trying to sell you on something, and do whatever the fuck you want!)

This is probably one of those posts I’ll revisit and update.

A personal website or blog is whatever you want it to be.

I can share whatever I want in whatever format I want!

Freedom from the pressure of social media sites, and no algorithms to fight.

I love learning new website skills, especially playing with CSS and themes. (I love customising themes!)

I improve my writing skills and can flex my creativity in all kinds of ways!

It’s a hub for all my different and changing interests.

It gives me space to discover the things that resonate with me.

Somewhere to document my life, reflect and gain new perspectives.

Helps me be more comfortable putting myself ‘out there’ and connecting with others.

I can curate my own RSS feeds to follow other bloggers I discover from all over the world wide web!

I love finding new blogs through other bloggers!

There are infinite amazing blogs to be inspired by.

It’s more personal.

It’s fun!

  1. What a beautiful piece! And I couldn’t agree more :). Honestly, it feels odd now to think back on all those years I didn’t blog. It’s hard to imagine my life without it anymore! In addition to all the fun I get from it, it’s really become part of my self-care routine, too. I’ve journaled for almost twenty years and I still do but just the act of writing like this brings so much to my life.

Absolutely! Blogging has become a tool that helps my mental health definitely! It really helps me to “unclog” when it feels like my head gets too full.
