Tiles, tiles, tiles, tiles, tiles

Tiles, tiles, tiles, tiles, tiles

For the last two days I’ve barely thought about anything other than tiles.

Even trying to relax watching Elementary this evening I’m looking at the tiles in the background  of shots! (There quite a lot!).

The reason for this is we’re getting our bathroom redone soon, and are currently in early stages of working out what we want! We kicked this off with a trip to a tile showroom yesterday, where we quite quickly fell in love with some large tropical leaf print tiles. To my amazement my partner was on board with the idea of a β€œjungle shower.” Our shower is in a kind of nook so potentially we can tile all around the inside, and wash in a leafy rainforest.

We need to check with our tiler that this is possible with our dimensions, but we have some kind of plan forming.

The problem to solve now is what to do in all the rest of the bathroom to complement our β€œfeature shower.” We need to tile floor to ceiling (that’s what we have at the moment, and can’t be bothered with the extra hassle of replastering!) and were not keen on the idea of 3 solid walls of the same tile so I’m puzzling over how to use two colours to break things up in a more interesting way.

I spent far too much time trying to work out the right search terms to find inspiration pictures of two different tiles or colours on the same wall. Turns out  “two tone” is what the internet has categorised this as!

Here are some photos I finally found.

I’ve also spent a ridiculous amount of time trying every tile visualiser I could find and getting frustrated none of them would let me section up a wall how I want! I also had an attempt to draw our bathroom and play with colours on my iPad in Procreate but I can’t work that app well enough yet for it to be anything other than an aggravating experience. One day I’ll put some time into figuring it out!

All I want is free and easy to use software where I can play with tile layouts and colours!

We’re getting closer anyway. We might make another trip to a different tile showroom in the next few weeks and see what other options are around. And we need to decide what to do about the floor.. the current thinking is wood effect tiles but only if we can find the right wood tone.

And we’re going to have to look at baths, shower units, basins and toilets… Which is honestly less exciting!

Before I go, I just want to share what are actually my ‘if I could have anything’ dream tiles. These ‘Brasilia’ tiles by Popham are all over Pinterest and I’m obsessed with them… But of course they’re hard to find and expensive enough that they don’t seem to get listed with a price!

They’re so fun, playful, a bit retro but also arty, and just cool as fuck.

But not a realistic option for us normals! Still, I think our “jungle bathroom” will be a lot of fun too! I am very excited that finally the monkey light pull and toilet roll holder (I couldn’t resist) I bought two years ago will be on theme!
