I discovered, while shopping in Sainsbury’s, that Pepsi Max Mango has been discontinued. I just didn’t know it was happening or I’d have bought all the stock I could find!
The “replacement” is Pepsi Max Tropical which is honestly disgusting.
I am having a hard time getting over it. Regular Pepsi Max just doesn’t hit the spot any more.
I’m not even a big pop drinker, it was specifically Pepsi Max Mango that I enjoyed. Just a little treat on a Friday evening watching telly, or a cool can in the hot weather.
Is it normal to grieve a Pepsi flavour?
Catfish TV
Our Samsung smart TV did some kind of update a few weeks ago and when it reset it landed itself on whatever mode it is where it plays endless episodes of a single old TV series.
One of those channels is Catfish TV. I got hooked.
Firstly, I think there was something freeing about surrendering myself to whatever episode was playing on the channels loop. No decisions, put it on and there are Nev and (preferably) Max helping some delusional fool.
Now I know Catfish TV is largely faked. It is a TV show so of course they know where they are going beforehand and they know they’ll find the catfish! I read that usually it was even the catfish that applied to the show which explains how inexplicably chill they are about agreeing to meet up at literally a single day’s notice when people have jobs!
But still… I find it compelling. It’s like a cultural artefact. The first season was 2012, which might only be 14 years ago but, my word, so much has changed with how people use the internet. These days catfish are far more likely to be industrial scale financial scammers, than some lonely and troubled gay/trans/overweight kid that got in too deep.
I think I have more thoughts to untangle on Catfish. My husband keeps telling me I should stop watching it because it’s depressing but I don’t think I’ve yet chased down the thread of what is so fascinating to me yet.
Sky Arts * Artist of the Year
There is also a Sky Arts channel that plays either Portrait Artist or the Year or Landscape Artist of the Year from various years. I love both.
I equally can’t stop watching it but it feels significantly more relaxing and good for my soul than Catfish.
In this current age of AI hysteria it has reminded me of the unique talents that human beings have. These artists are all fantastic and through watching it I can recognise that they bring their own qualities, even between those with similar styles.
Whether it’s a portrait of a person or a landscape they are able to capture something of a essence of the subject… In a way I don’t understand, it’s like magic!

It’s very inspiring! I’m all fired up to get stuck back into my embroidery!
I should find more art programmes to watch.

What else?
- I had a lovely bank holiday weekend in the sun, enjoying the garden and reading or doing my embroidery! π
- We’ve been busy spending weekends digging down the side of the house to find our damp proof courses of bricks to stop the rotting floor issue. Turns out – since our house is kind of on an incline – it’s very deep and under the concrete is basically pure clay. Digging huge blocks of heavy clay out a 4 ft deep trench, that’s only about 1.5 ft wide, is hard fucking work, let me tell you. It’s also now filling up with water and we keep having to bail out the water with a bucket! Ridiculous. Eventually we’ll put in a french drain but it needs to be dug out first.
- We’ve been married for 1 year! It’s flown by honestly. We went for a dinner out at the same place we went to 2 years ago for our anniversary, I realised we not only ordered the same things but we were both wearing the same outfits!
- I set my phone to limit my use of Instagram to 30 mins a day, and actually turns out I naturally don’t spend much more time than that on it daily away! I’ve also been unfollowing a lot of celebrities and get my feed down to people I actually care about.
- Have a growing urge to evangelise about keeping notebooks and writing on pen and paper.
- The latest computer game obsession is Potion Explosion on Steam (also a boardgame I played with Husband at the new boardgame cafe in town). I think I have about 3 days more of obsession with it in me.
- Eurovision came and went and I failed to blog about it. It was a weird event, again. Israel is really spoiling the vibe and putting politics centre stage whether the EBU wants to admit it or not… thankfully Bulgaria sent the enigmatic DARA with a true banger and saved the competition for another year.
