Digest 20250209

Another week has gone by! In my work life, it was better than the last. I finally got the tasks I was blocked on last week completed, so that was something. When I went into the office this week my colleague (not someone I work with directly), one of the absolute loveliest people I’ve ever met, just out of the blue said whenever my name comes up in conversation it gets followed by “she’s so amazing.” She said people don’t often make such comments to your face so she wanted me to know, and she’s right! It was lovely to hear that!

I have finished a lot of books this week, which is great, but is seriously backing me up on reviews for the blog! I’ve got Doppelganger, The Luckiest Girl Alive and Alias Grace to review… and none of those are what you’d call light reads! I’m also currently reading on Kindle a 175-pager (Kim Jiyoung, Born 1982 byΒ Cho Nam-Joo), and I blasted through 4 of 6 hours of Nomad by Alan Partridge on audiobook just doing exercise and chores today… so those will also be on the pile shortly too!

I’m going to have to try to get some of those out of my brain this week (at least drafted notes) because next weekend we’ll be going away to Venice for 4 days with some friends!

I feel like I have slacked on the blog a bit this weekend because I’ve gotten completely obsessed with playing Two Point Campus! I’m still trying to figure it out. I’m such a pro at Two Point Hospital but this game is slightly different and I’ve not worked out how to optimise yet! I’ve been trying to work it out myself without resorting to online guides.

At least playing computer games is not a total “waste” of my time since discovering the standing desk treadmill hack! I’ve been getting a lot of steps in while I play… I just did 5,000 this evening in about an hour!

Walking challenges

On our walk to Modor I’m currently captured by a Barrow White (which I think was also cut out the movies?) at 128 miles. I’m happy that over each week I’ve slowly increased my average steps, I’m not at almost 7,000 daily average from a starting 6,000!

In my Star Trek challenge, I’m 73% of the way at 118km so far, and I have 44% of the time I have myself left. I’ve unlocked all the character cards… I was hoping the last one would be the Crystalline Entity, but sadly not! I think it’ll only be a few weeks before I can claim my medal!

My slow increase in jogging is also really helping my steps and distance. I’ve noticed it feels a little easier each time I go out, and my pace is ever so slightly improving each time. I was really helped in the last week by being so into my audiobook (The Luckiest Girl Alive) and that provided extra motivation to do my workouts! The combination of running and my strength training has really made me feel like I have muscles in my legs again. This week after my leg workout day I felt less wobbly and it was easier to walk down the stairs with less shaking on tired muscles! I remember after my first one I had to go down for dinner on my bum!

What else?

  • Severance season 2 .. Holy shit.. who is watching it?! Episode 4 was another mind blower… I think I need to watch that one a second time!
  • Adding to my “stuff I’ve been thinking about” unpublished drafts are some thoughts about comment sections on certain social media posts, particularly this Justin Baldonia vs. Blake Likely spectacle (after I made the mistake of looking at Instagram comments for the Another Simple Favour movie). I’m finding it very reminiscent of what happened with Johnny Depp and Amber Heard and it’s just so frustrating, and very depressing. Social media, gossip and public opinion have also been strong themes in the slew of books I just read so this topic is really stewing in my mind soup.
  • My (current) favourite podcast If Books Could Kill just did an episode on the book You Are A Badass by Jen Sincero which was doubly funny for me because my Fiance bought me this book about 3 years ago and – as we joke, like all books he buys me – I never read it! I’m glad I didn’t… For the record, I don’t think he knew what this book was (it is terrible), I think he just liked the title and thought it might lift me up while I was going through a period of being fed up in my old job.
  • I haven’t made anything since December and I’m starting to feel the itch. I picked a pattern to sew some embroidery onto an old stained jumper, I just need to actually start it! Maybe when we get back from Venice.
  • The car is still delayed… if feels like we’re having bad luck with this just like the new bathroom! The current status is we “should” get it by the end of this week… I’m not holding my breath!
  • I’ve continued to experiment with my hair. I’m much better at French plaits now and have taken to doing them every night for bed, it’s more comfortable to sleep without my hair everywhere and I like how it then looks in the morning tothen make a full or a half-up ponytail. The cat hates this because it delays the time before I get into bed and she can climb all over me and pin me down for fuss, she sits on the end of the bed and meows until I get in it!
  • I’ve also been trying out some simple buns with a packet of French pins I got after watching some YouTube videos (I just got some cheap simple ones like these). Half-up do with a little bun is my look of the week! I also like a pinned bun to go jogging with, it feels much more secure than swinging about pony I have to keep tightening.

That’s it for now… next week will we finally have our new car? Stay tuned to find out…
