10 Books on my Wish List

I have had a very busy week and didn’t prepare this post in advance, so this is later than I usually post and just a quick one for Christmas Eve! The prompt was Books I Hope Santa Brings/Bookish Wishes.

These five books are genuinely on the Christmas list I gave to my family for physical books I’d like to add to my library.

  1. Jessica Jones: Volumes 1-3 by Brian Michael Bendis & Michael Gaydos: I loved reading this series on Marvel Unlimited and I’d like it for my physical collections to sit along side Alias.
  2. Breaking the Dark: A Jessica Jones Marvel Crime novel by Lisa Jewell: I really enjoyed this and it’d go nicely in my Jessica collection.
  3. Alan Partridge: Big Beacon by Alan Partridge: I fucking love Alan Partridge. I will actually get the audiobook of this (it’s been out for a year, I’m so behind) because all Alan’s books are best listened to in his own voice, but I’d also like a hardcopy for our library to go with I, Partridge and Nomad.
  4. Stumpwork Embroidery & Thread Painting: Stitch 3-D Nature Motifs by Megan Zaniewski: I’d love to learn how to do stumpwork and I love Megan’s stuff on instagram.
  5. The Royal School of Needlework Book of Embroidery: A guide to essential stitches, techniques and projects: I’d like to build a collection of reference books for my embroidery work and so I don’t have to look up everything up online!

And here are five from my Kindle deal watch list. I add books I’m interested in to this list and I check it most days to see if any of them have popped up for 99p in a Kindle deal. These are the five I’m most eager to get a deal on!

  1. Cinnamon and Gunpowder: A Novel by Eli Brown: I’ve been interested in this since ZeZe mentioned it but Β£8.99 is steep for an ebook. I may end up trying to get a second-hand paper copy.
  2. Dawn: Lilith’s Brood 1 by Octavia E. Butler: I was blown away by Kindred and I want to try more Butler. The prices for this series don’t seem to fluctuate.
  3. 13 Ways of Looking at a Fat Girl by Mona Awad: I love Mona Awad, I need to read more of her! I’ve been watching for for a while and the price has never dropped.
  4. My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand: I am still devastated that the TV series got cancelled! I really enjoyed the ridiculous world and I’m interested to see how the books compare.. and it seems to be the only way to carry on the story now.
  5. Riddley Walker by Russell Hoban: I mentioned Russell Hoban in my list of oldest books I want to read, and I have most of his books in my watch list. They sound weird, and Mona Awad has mentioned his work in an interview so I’d love experience it for myself.

I hope you all have a great Christmas day tomorrow, whatever you’re doing!

Thank you AJ, sadly I didn’t get any books this year but I’m sure I’ll buy these for myself by the end of 2024!

Ooh, book number 5 of the list you gave your family… that has been on my wishlist too. I just can’t remember if I bought it, or if it is still in my wishlist. My craft books have been boxed up since I moved two years ago.

When you finally unbox those books I bet it’ll be full of surprises! I didn’t get it for Christmas but I will probably buy it for myself at some point! It looks useful in the online listing, I keep meaning to look for it in the Waterstones bookshop next time I’m in the city and check it out properly.

  2. Hope Cinnamon and Gunpowder works for you when you try it. It’s slow-paced but such a great read. I got mine second-hand too.

Thanks Zezee, it sounds like a fun one and something a bit different! I am on the lookout for a copy that’s a reasonable price.
