I felt pretty crappy today and ended up spending most of it on the sofa watching films while I started work on my cat embroidery.
I so rarely watch movies (pretty much only when I feel shitty!), I wanted to record this with a blog post!
In order of worst to best:
1. Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993)
I was obsessed with this movie as a teenager, and I really wanted to rewatch it after visiting Carcassonne (trail of thought is Robin Hood Prince of Thieves was shot there – I am from Nottingham and I can safely say it has never looked like the South of France but also Robin Hood (if he existed) wouldn’t have sounded American, so they were never shooting for accuracy! π).
Anyway, I tracked down a DVD on eBay… And yeah it’s not as good as I remembered it being when I was 15! Most of it is just not funny at all, it takes so long to get going and the only bits that made me chuckle at all were all in the latter third of the movie (it’s all pretty crap until the archery contest).

Still, at least Robin was English! And the Sheriff of Rottingham was great. So…er basically the English actors were good. And Richard Lewis as King John is a stand out!
2. 27 Dresses (2007)
I enjoy the comfort of a 2000s rom-com when I feel rough. I had this in my head from trying to remember what Malin Akerman has been in after she hosted Eurovision!
It’s by no means a perfect movie, but I thought this one held up well! Katherine Heigl is always reliable and her character is sweet, James Marsden was cute (though, even if not ill-intentioned he is a bit manipulative!) and I always love a bit of Judy Greer. I liked that the romance part is more of an after thought to Jane learning to stand up for her own needs. I really enjoyed my rewatch!
3. The Spy Who Dumped Me (2018)
I got 3/4 of the way in before I realised I’d seen this before π but that speaks to my poor memory and the fact I use movies as background to my crafting, because I really enjoyed this!
It was really fun, Mila Kunis was great and Kate McKinnon’s character was OTT but I really loved her. It was silly, completely unbelievable but it was funny! I do love an action-comedy movie when women get to dick about.
4. Weird: The Al Yankovic Story (2022)
I love that Daniel Radcliffe post-Potter just does the weirdest fucking movies he can. I also loved that he’s unexpectedly ripped in this (apparently he just was in shape anyway, and the movie makers thought it was funny).
I loved this movie, it is so fucking stupid. The whole thing made me laugh, I don’t think a joke missed (except his Mum being fat at the end, that might have been a song or video reference I didn’t get!). Start to finish ridiculous!
And I learned that Beat It was in fact a parody of Al’s original song Eat It! Many people get confused about that fact.
