      • 1 Star/Did Not Finish1 Star reads and books I didn’t finish. I use this for books I couldn’t finish. If I finished a book, it meant it was passable at least so deserves an extra star! It is very rare that I need to do this, I’m good at knowing my own taste. Usually if  a book got this rating I’d made a miscalculation when I picked it up! I have a whole post about how I rate books and my reading preferences.
      • 2 Stars2 out of 5 star  book reviews. I finished the book but it felt like a struggle, and I probably ended up skim reading a lot of it just to get though the thing. I have a whole post about how I rate books and my reading preferences.
      • 3 Stars3 out of 5 star book reviews. These are middle-of-the-road books. Nothing that got me excited, but they were fine and I probably had a good time reading most of it. I have a whole post about how I rate books and my reading preferences.
      • 4 Stars4 out of 5 star book reviews. I had a good time reading it, I felt like I got something out of the experience and I’d recommend it to other people. I have a whole post about how I rate books and my reading preferences.
      • 5 Stars5 out of 5 star book reviews. I got super excited about it! I’ll buy a hard copy for my library, and I’ll likely read it again. Sometimes for these books, I’ll write up a longer review with analysis. I have a whole post about how I rate books and my reading preferences.

sweetpea by c.j. skuse 3/5 stars This was fun, just a little bit of light murder. I enjoyed Rhiannon’s voice, even if her character felt a bit inconsistent towards the end.

A fun little bit of murder! - ⭐⭐⭐ 3/5 Stars

False Value by Ben Aaronovitch 3/5 stars I am done with this series now. This is book eight, and I realise there has been a startling lack of character growth, and it’s just never going to give me what I want.

Earthlings by Sayaka Murata 4/5 stars I’d recommend reading Life Ceremony before this novel, it might be less shocking that way around! Equally disturbing as I found it entertaining. Don’t be fooled by the cute hedgehog on the cover!

Retreat by Kyrsten Ritter 3/5 stars A campy thriller following a con-woman stealing the identity of a rich lady in an exclusive Mexican resort. I thought this was a lot of fun, with plenty of twists and a fast pace. Good for a popcorn read!

Lies Sleeping by Ben Aaronovitch 3/5 stars The climax to The Faceless Man plot was a disappointing muddle of too many ideas. There are far too many characters in this book, and The Folly is feeling overcrowded. I think I’m almost ready to call it quits.

The series has become overstuffed, overcrowded with characters and I'm losing patience with it. - ⭐⭐⭐ 3/5

Seven books read plus I blasted through a lot of Uncanny X-Men, leading into the rather underwhelming X-Factor.

Role Playing by Cathy Yardley 3.5/5 stars This was a cute, later-in-life romance between two 50ish-year-olds. I liked the representation for demisexuals, and while I loved Aiden, I was less keen on Maggie. The overall story is servicable, and there is little character depth.

the hanging tree by ben aaronovitch The best one so far! We’re back in London, there are cool magical battles, Lesley May reappears, and The Faceless Man mystery reaches a kind of conclusion. Also, no cringeworthy Male Gaze!!

⭐⭐⭐ 3/5 Stars - Sci-fi element was nothing but gimmick, a forgettable coming of age story with nothing new to say.
