      • 1 Star/Did Not Finish1 Star reads and books I didn’t finish. I use this for books I couldn’t finish. If I finished a book, it meant it was passable at least so deserves an extra star! It is very rare that I need to do this, I’m good at knowing my own taste. Usually if  a book got this rating I’d made a miscalculation when I picked it up! I have a whole post about how I rate books and my reading preferences.
      • 2 Stars2 out of 5 star  book reviews. I finished the book but it felt like a struggle, and I probably ended up skim reading a lot of it just to get though the thing. I have a whole post about how I rate books and my reading preferences.
      • 3 Stars3 out of 5 star book reviews. These are middle-of-the-road books. Nothing that got me excited, but they were fine and I probably had a good time reading most of it. I have a whole post about how I rate books and my reading preferences.
      • 4 Stars4 out of 5 star book reviews. I had a good time reading it, I felt like I got something out of the experience and I’d recommend it to other people. I have a whole post about how I rate books and my reading preferences.
      • 5 Stars5 out of 5 star book reviews. I got super excited about it! I’ll buy a hard copy for my library, and I’ll likely read it again. Sometimes for these books, I’ll write up a longer review with analysis. I have a whole post about how I rate books and my reading preferences.

bridget jones's diary by helen fielding 4/5 stars A fun and easy re-read! Bridget remains charming, if a little immature, and very much a product of her time. Daniel Cleaver and Mark Darcy are still hot. A few blasts from the past: landlines, 1471, VHS tapes, and lots of cigarettes!

As easy re-read! Bridget is definitely a product of her time but still charming! ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4/5 Stars

foxglove summer by ben aaronovitch 3/5 stars I didn’t love this one. While it does add some much-needed lore (what happened at Ettersberg!), the series arc treads water. The plot was convoluted, with the conclusion vague and rushed. And, unforgivably, no Nightingale!

Unfortunately book 5 leans back into the elements I don't enjoy in this series, and without the ones I do! - ⭐⭐⭐ 3/4 Stars

Life Ceremony by Sayaka Murata 4/5 stars A very weird collection that asks who decided what normal is? A couple of stand-out stories really resonated and made me consider our core values of society, and how mutable they may be.

Persepolis Rising by James S.A. Corey 3.5/5 stars The beginning of the final arc for the series. This was all set up with a plot that didn’t pull me along. I’m hoping the final two books have the payoff for this one. Also, I found the 30-year time jump very distracting!

Better than Babylon's Ashes, but it's all set up for the final arc of the series, and I never felt pulled along by the plot. ⭐⭐⭐ 3.5/5 Stars

catherine the great by robert k. massive A really engaging biography that uses Catherine’s personal writings to tell her story. Can confirm that The Great TV series was only very occasionally true!
