The Cat Portrait (WIP #5)

W.I.P. The Cat Portrait

I thought I’d been doing well on this project recently but then I realised it’s been a full month since I last updated, and I’ve really only spent two afternoons on it!

Partly, now the secret is out, that’s because I’d been working on my proposal scrapbook when I had spare moments, but also we had either busy weekends or the sun actually came out so I got to gardening!!

Anyway, I have made some progress to share.. hence this update. Last time I’d been stitching mainly to Veronica Mars but then I dipped out and became mildly obsessed with Corner Gas! I think Corner Gas is going to have to get it’s own blog post.

Much of this initial progress on Kitler’s cheeks was actually done while watching Ocean’s 8 which I realised about 75% of the way in I had seen before it was just so incredibly unmemorable I’d completely forgotten about it until the bit where they’re at the MET and Anne Hathaway is vomiting.

Kitler has been a challenge with her light coloured whisphy fur, and yeah I did mix up my shades so we’ve now got a bit of an interesting mix of greys around the nose and right eye… But it’s not bad enough to make me unpick. I always think I’ll be organised this time but inevitably I end up with a messy tray of threads and I lose track of what I’m actually using.

Once I started to fill in her “hair” it really felt like she was coming together. I’ve just had to let go.of my perfectionism for her “hairline” as I’m never going to get the details of that exactly right.

Most of the “hair” was done while we re-watched Eternals last night. Interlude for quick movie review: You know I do not understand the negativity that movie got. We both enjoyed it in the cinema and I enjoyed it even more rewatching it! It’s just a different vibe, it’s more serious and sincere, it looks beautiful and I think it tells a really interesting and moving story. Angelina Jolie is really powerful in it too. It’s such a shame there is no Eternals 2 (though kind of glad for no more of Harry Styles questionable acting skills as Eros), and I’m still holding out small hope for Black Knight to happen!

Tonight I’ve got a bit more done over the tops of her ears while I watched some Star Trek: Deep Space 9. It was a great Odo episode (makes friends with a little girl in a holographic village, weird side plot where Quark tries to distract Major Kira from his crimes by getting her laid…), a relief after three in a row Miles O’Brien stories. I like the Chief, but it was a bit much.

Now Kitler has her “hair” and ears she’s looking more frowny, which is very Kitler.

The end is in sight now anyway! I would love to get it done by the end of the month, so I can then focus on making some Christmas stuff – I have a pile of kits from Love Embroidery magazine! – but with us away next week I don’t know how likely that is!
