The bright side? (Joy #9)

The bright side? (Joy #9)

I’m feeling a bit fed up at the moment. My finance got COVID last week and has been ill since Monday. That would be bad at the best of times but the timing is terrible because we were supposed to be driving to Wales tomorrow for 5 days away, and now that’s not going to happen. We are definitely going to have to lose a few hundred pounds on the first hotel and miss 2 days.

We are hoping to still be able to make the end of the week in the second place we booked, but that won’t be the full break away I was looking forward to. That will only be 1 full day bookended by two 4 hour drive days (and driving really stresses me out so I will not be relaxed on those days).

And now I also am feeling rough myself! I had been a bit headachy all week but that could have been stress, otherwise I’ve felt ok. I took a COVID self-test yesterday afternoon which was negative.. but then I suddenly developed a slight cough and I woke up at 4am this morning feeling shit with a sore throat. Now I ache all over with a banging headache….. Wonderful!

I took a second test today that was also negative, but with the way I feel, and after my fiance had it, that seems unlikely!

I’ve tried to rest today and not stress, and drink lots and take naps and just hope by Wednesday I’m ok… And we can salvage something!

So yeah … Somehow I need to fix my attitude so the next week isn’t completely miserable.

I want to start with remembering all the wonderful things that have happened recently, because it is never all bad!

1. I proposed and he said yes!

2. I got the perfect engagement ring. (Actually turns out this is an interesting barometer for my temperature, when I was hot this morning I couldn’t take it off, and now after some cold meds it’s loose again!).

3. I got my hair trimmed so it looks good and feels fresh at the moment! It had been many months since my last cut, and it felt needed.

I love this photo. Cute cat and my hair looks really good!

4. I planted bulbs and wallflowers! I’m pretty excited to see how they turn out come the spring.

5. I’ve been in my job for a whole year now! It’s going really well, and I’m getting to working on a project with an exciting high profile customer! And institution I’ve always enjoyed, but I never thought I’d be involved with and it’s been very cool to see a bit behind the scenes.

6. We had a lovely weekend together last weekend, which included my second attempt at climbing. Two months after the first but I actually felt like I made progress and got a little bit better. Even if I’m still not going more than 2 feet up and I had some wobbly moments!

7. The Cat Portrait is really coming along. Since we’re going to be home missing our 2 days in Wales I’m hoping to get lots of it done, if not finished!

8. I’m proud of myself for going for a few jogs after work recently. Sure it’s just 15 mins around the block but I did it because I wanted to – with no forcing myself to do it – and I enjoyed it, which is a good sign for easing into a habit eventually.

9. There is some ace TV on at the moment. I’m enjoying Agatha All Along, there is a new series of Taskmaster, and Grand Designs, and Only Murders in the Building. We really loved the BBCs new series Ludwig with David Mitchell. I’m also still loving Corner Gas! I had a minor panic when I got to season 6 and Prime wanted to charge me for it but I found it for free on Pluto TV!

10. Sims 4 is working again on the PS5! Last time I tried to play it last year it wouldn’t load into any game lots, but it seems ok now and Sims is just the kind of gentle but absorbing game that helps me forget how terrible I feel.

  1. Aww hope you both feel better. Sucks that it seems the illness will mess up the time away.

Thank you, we’re both a lot better now and managed to have a nice time! It just weirdly feels like it’s been a very long couple of weeks.
