Treehouse mini-break

Treehouse mini-break

We just got back from a wonderful two might break in posh treehouse in Cambridgeshire! My partner surprised me with this place last year for my birthday and we loved it so much we went back for his birthday!

Last time was the first time we’d ever gone to a luxury cabin place like this, and we’d “wasted” time away from it in Cambridge rather than taking full advantage of the facilities on such a short break! This time we arrived with supplies, books and boardgames, and planned not to leave until checkout!

This place (HappenOak) feels extra magical because it’s built in a little wood and you have to walk a 100 yard path through trees, then up some steps to get to it.

A magic hidden retreat!

It has an outdoor bath that is so incredibly well insulated it never lost any heat before we were pruned up and ready to get out. Much better than our indoor bath at home! I never thought I’d be into bathing outside, but it was loving to sit out there in the trees soaking in bubbles, with a glass of rose!

There is also a sauna that has a view of the trees and fields. I’m still not totally sold on saunas (it know it’s meant to be good for you but it doesn’t feel good to be that hot!) but we used it for 15mins a day to make the most of it!

Heaven on Earth. I close my eyes and dream about this swing seat.

The best thing about this place is the double pod swing seat that is the most comfortable seat I’ve ever sat in. It more than makes up for no hot tub, in fact I think it’s better than a hot tub (and we looked it up, it costs more!). What is it that’s so relaxing about being gently rocked?

Ever since we went last year the memory of laying in this seat, under a cosy blanket and looking out over the fields in one of my Happy Place memories. It’s up there with sunbathing in Cape Verde, around the quiet adults only pool, with an all inclusive pinacolda in hand. Bliss.

It was a lovely time. I read lots of Marvel Unlimited , I powered on through a chunk of Deadhouse Gates and now it’s getting pretty good, and we played lots of Dorf Romantic and Calico while enjoying the views across the fields.

I feel so incredibly lucky that we can go to places like this now! They do cost a lot, but the little luxury touches (fancy soaps that smell like Turkish delight, soft thick robes, heavy cosy wool blankets, heated floors etc) do make it feel special and worth it. Now we live together we save so much on living expenses, and of course we’re child free, that we can afford to splash out on really nice break like this a couple of times a year if we want to!

We’ll probably come back again next year!!

The only drawback is that we do get woken up early by the light and the cocophony of birds and squirrels scrabbling around on the roof! Nature can be relaxing but it’s also noisy! πŸ˜‚

  1. I am buzzy – veritably itchy – with ideas and grand plans today. Maybe it’s because I finally took some days off work to properly…

That sounds so lovely and relaxing! (I also don’t really get saunas πŸ˜…)
These kinds of getaways where you stay at the hotel/facility the whole time are underrated =o
