Sudoku is actually quite easy

This is another one to add to the list of “things I didn’t see myself enjoying.” πŸ€“

This is the list as I can think of things right now, all brought into my life by my partner who has definitely helped me gain confidence in my own mental abilities in the last few years!

1. Boardgames.

2. Magic the Gathering (jury still out somewhat on level of enjoyment).

3. Sudoku.

For whatever reason I always thought Sudoku was for maths and logic geniuses, and I would never understand it because it’s numbers stuff and I’m better at words stuff. I’ll always take a crossword over a Sudoku.

Then I moved in with my partner, who’s lately been on a binge with Sudoku videos by Cracking the Cryptic. The one guy in there – Simon Anthony – has such a beguiling manner. I was sucked in by his unabashed enthusiasm and use of quaint polite Grandma phrases like “oh bobbins!”

The guys on that channel are solving expert level puzzles well beyond the basic Sudoku rules, using logic I don’t think I’ll ever understand (or care to!). But, they did help me understand what the Sudoku rules actually are and that a regular old Sudoku puzzle is actually pretty easy!

It’s just recognising patterns! It’s not maths, it’s not really about the numbers at all! 1 to 9 are just tiles to arrange in a grid!

So for the last few days, to my own amazement, I’ve been addicted to my Sudoku app! The app really does make it easier than trying to do one with pen and paper, it’s a great way to get started.

I quickly moved up to doing the Hard levels (which aren’t really that hard!). Maybe I’ll try Expert soon!

This is one reason why I’m behind on my blog! We’ve been busy with decorating, busy weekends, I had some nights of terrible sleep (thanks hormones)… And also a friend lent us Hogwarts Legacy and it turns out it is super fun, so also definitely being pulled to the PS5 when I do have free time…!

I’m hoping I can get a newsletter update out soon.. and the 2 or 3 book reviews I’m backed up with!
