Mini Review | Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir

⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4/5 Stars – Entertaining with some good twists and turns, but way too much maths! So. Much. Maths.

I did enjoy this one! For the most part very entertaining and easy to read, and the plot has lots of twists and turns to keep things exciting (some expected and some not). I don’t want to give spoilers but I will just say that at the point I was thinking I might give up on it a new development pulled me back in.

What didn’t work so well for me is that I did find the main character a little grating and lacking depth. All characters either had the same personality and sense of humour as the main character (including one you’d really expect to be different!), or were thin stereotypes (vodka drinking Russian, quiet Chinese, autistic nerd, ruthless boss lady etc…).

There is way too much maths and science for me! Every time he started on the equations I had to skim read through.. that is a surprisingly high percentage of the book!
