My Favourite ‘X-Men’ Side Characters

I have absolutely loved rewatching for original 90s X-Men cartoon. It’s fun, and soapy and sometimes quite silly! These are some of my favourite side characters!

In no particularly order…

1. Mr Sinister

Camp from his name to his outfits. He’s single minded in his bizarre obsession with Jean and Scott producing offspring… The cartoon never explains why exactly he’s obsessed with them which honestly just makes it even funnier to me.

2. The Nasty Boys

The Nasty Boys, from left to right: Slab, Hairbag(!), Gorgeous George, Ruckus and Vertigo.

Mr Sinister’s henchmen! What a name for a gang, and what a gang of odd balls. Gorgeous George is my personal favourite, but seems like Sinister has a soft spot for Ruckus.

3. Fabian Cortez

The voice actor really brought Fabian Cortez to life as one of the most insufferable lower tier villains. Narcissistic but also a total bootlicker when in the employ of the more powerful Magneto or Apocalypse, he is the worst!

4. Gladiator

The Shi’ar don’t do much for me but Gladiator (sworn to protect the ruler) is just cool, and I love his look. He’s like a purple mohawked Superman.

5. Erik the Red

I loved Erik because he’s just so shit at his job and gets beaten up by everyone! And his red bondage outfit is unnecessarily sexy.

6. Banshee / Sean Cassidy

First of all the terrible Irish accent (I wasn’t sure if it was meant to be Irish or Scottish, I had to look it up!). Second of all his powers are hilarious, especially as he can only fly through screaming. Third of all he apparently has a family castle?!

7. Lady Deathstrike

In the show she is Wolverine’s ex-girlfriend, her father invented the process that gave him his adamantium skeleton and she’s bent on avenging his death. I was distracted because her whole look is bonkers. And she did this to herself voluntarily.
