  • The Last Train Home By Elle Cook 3/5 stars Genre: Romance Positives: + Easy read, short bingeable chapters. + Reasons for “the timing never being right” were understandable. + A little deeper than your average romance, touches on trauma. Negatives: - Everything involves alcohol! - Partners who are too conveniently unsympathetic to the reader. - Bored by babies in the last 20%. - Ultimately forgettable characters.

  • A Lady’s Guide To Fortune-Hunting by Sophie Irwin 3/5 Stars Genre: Regency Romance Positives: + Kitty is a confident, pragmatic and independent protagonist. + A twist on the marriage mart romance from an outsider perspective. + Lovers can communicate effectively! Negatives: - Feels very flat. - The first half drags. - Very tame with no sexual tension! - Feels like side characters were out having all the fun & romance off the page!

  • You and Me on Vacation by Emily Henry. Did Not Finish (DNF) Mini Review. Genre: Romantic Comedy, Chick Lit Positives: + Emily Henry is an engaging writer. Flows well, easy to read. It just has all the tropes that I hate! Negatives: - Could not stand Poppy. - Did not believe the friendship between her and Alex could have lasted 12 years. - No chemistry on the page. - Nothing happened in first 25%, it is so boring. - It is the anti-Book Lovers (which I loved so much!).

  • The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab Mini review 3 of 5 stars Genre: Fantasy, Contemporary Positives: + A great concept. + Great author, even if this is not her best work IMO. Negatives: - Too long, plot really treads water. - Flat characters. I was fed up with both Addie (petulant, bland) and Henry (whiny, dull). - No earned character growth for either. - Predictable ending. - Style over substance. - So much wasted potential for a true epic!

Negatives: - Writing style is too poetic for me. - Between language, structure and lack of world building I found the story hard to follow. - I wasnt engaged with the characters or the romance.
