      • 1 Star/Did Not Finish1 Star reads and books I didn’t finish. I use this for books I couldn’t finish. If I finished a book, it meant it was passable at least so deserves an extra star! It is very rare that I need to do this, I’m good at knowing my own taste. Usually if  a book got this rating I’d made a miscalculation when I picked it up! I have a whole post about how I rate books and my reading preferences.
      • 2 Stars2 out of 5 star  book reviews. I finished the book but it felt like a struggle, and I probably ended up skim reading a lot of it just to get though the thing. I have a whole post about how I rate books and my reading preferences.
      • 3 Stars3 out of 5 star book reviews. These are middle-of-the-road books. Nothing that got me excited, but they were fine and I probably had a good time reading most of it. I have a whole post about how I rate books and my reading preferences.
      • 4 Stars4 out of 5 star book reviews. I had a good time reading it, I felt like I got something out of the experience and I’d recommend it to other people. I have a whole post about how I rate books and my reading preferences.
      • 5 Stars5 out of 5 star book reviews. I got super excited about it! I’ll buy a hard copy for my library, and I’ll likely read it again. Sometimes for these books, I’ll write up a longer review with analysis. I have a whole post about how I rate books and my reading preferences.

Rivers of London (Series)

False Value by Ben Aaronovitch 3/5 stars I am done with this series now. This is book eight, and I realise there has been a startling lack of character growth, and it’s just never going to give me what I want.

I'm done with this series - ⭐⭐⭐ 3/5 Stars

Lies Sleeping by Ben Aaronovitch 3/5 stars The climax to The Faceless Man plot was a disappointing muddle of too many ideas. There are far too many characters in this book, and The Folly is feeling overcrowded. I think I’m almost ready to call it quits.

The series has become overstuffed, overcrowded with characters and I'm losing patience with it. - ⭐⭐⭐ 3/5

the hanging tree by ben aaronovitch The best one so far! We’re back in London, there are cool magical battles, Lesley May reappears, and The Faceless Man mystery reaches a kind of conclusion. Also, no cringeworthy Male Gaze!!

foxglove summer by ben aaronovitch 3/5 stars I didn’t love this one. While it does add some much-needed lore (what happened at Ettersberg!), the series arc treads water. The plot was convoluted, with the conclusion vague and rushed. And, unforgivably, no Nightingale!

Unfortunately book 5 leans back into the elements I don't enjoy in this series, and without the ones I do! - ⭐⭐⭐ 3/4 Stars

Whispers Underground by Ben Aaronovitch 4/5 stars We’re back on form! Lesley returns to duty (love her!), and the magical world expands further with some great new characters. These audiobooks are such good fun!

Moon Over Soho by Ben Arronovitch 2/5 stars I was so close to DNF’ing! Hated the main plot, Peter started to give me the ick... BUT... the underground wizards subplot, Nightingale and world building kept me going. I hope this is just a blip in the series and Peter improves!

Moon Over Soho (Rivers of London #2) by Ben Aaronovitch

I was so close to DNFing this. I hated everything about the main plot, Peter gave me ick, and most of it was infuriating reading... BUT the subplot, the world building and the direction I think the series is going held my interest! - ⭐⭐ 2/5 Stars

rivers of london by ben aaronovich Simple and fun supernatural crime story with loads of British humour and plenty of magic! I enjoyed it more than I expected and look forward to reading the second book!
