Garden #8

Garden #8

I haven’t been out much in the garden lately due to the weather and not general exhaustion, but the sun has put his hat on for my long weekend!

All my plant pots are looking incredible now the flowers are coming into bloom! Most of my pots have self-seeded snap dragons in them with a few other annual bedding plants I bought this year.

I love the explosions of colour!

And in the raised beds things are also popping off! I’m very excited about the sunflowers.

I’ve been trying to keep on top of dead heading, especially with the violas I planted in spring which are so far still going strong!

Under the buddleia we have this grass that flowers, Google says it’s crocosmia. I always forget that it has these lovely orange blooms in summer!

The new plants I’ve put it are really growing now! The impatiens are an incredible mound of bright colour. They remind me of the garden flowers in the original The Sims game.

The anenome under tree hasn’t been looking too healthy and some of the leaves went crispy. I think maybe it wasn’t getting enough water despite all the rain because it’s so sheltered. I’ve been watering it more, while it’s still getting established, and it seems to have perked up.

On the other side of the fern the gaillardia is putting on a real show, and the cosmo, calendula and lavatera are getting going now too. The tall yellow things where already in the bed and I think are golden rod. I quite like it, although it’s far too close to the clematis, and seems to be a bit too good at seeding itself since the little suckers are popping up everywhere. I need to remember to lop them off before it goes to seed!

I dug out an old photo of the garden to compare my progress! I actually had forgotten how overgrown it was! I wish I’d take more photos, but at least I have this one! It feels really satisfying to see the difference!

I love a reason to use the image slider!

This weekend I just did some weeding and dug out some of the grass in the back section, that was a lot easier after the rain than it was a couple of weeks ago. Dug up a bit more ivy and sprayed more weed killer on the brambles I can’t get to the roots for. The back neighbours were out cutting back the ivy on their side too which was good! I think we need to get a mini chainsaw to tackle the last bits of that, which would also be useful for the buddleia and forsythia.

I loved getting to spend time chilling in the garden this weekend! I got some jobs done, but also trying to make the most of the nice days in this dull summer I spent a whole day out there on Friday just listening to my audiobook and working on embroidery, and yesterday I relaxed finishing reading Alias.

I also think the lawn looks pretty at the moment with the yellow buttercups and the purple clover, but it’ll seem be mowed back to green.
